Chapter 8 - The Return

He drove back to the country house in the fading light of a spring evening. He felt a sense of lightness he hadn't felt in years.
When he arrived, the house was silent, but it wasn't the cold, empty silence of the Greenwich estate. It was a warm, expectant silence.
He walked into the living room and saw them—Julia, Lily, and Noah, sitting by the fireplace, the guitar resting on Julia’s lap. They were laughing, their faces bright with the simple joy of being together.
When they saw him, they stood up.
Lily ran to him, and this time, he didn't just hold her; he picked her up and held her close.
"You’re home!" she cried.
Ethan looked at Julia, who was watching him with a mixture of hope and relief.
"I’m home," he said.
They spent the rest of the evening by the fireplace, the music filling the room. It wasn't the music of a concert house, but it was the music of a family.
