Chapter 7 - The Leverage

Victor’s lawyer quickly intervened. "Mr. Miller, this is a highly irregular way to conduct business. The Rodriguez case is currently in private arbitration. Your involvement could be seen as tortious interference."
"I don't care about your arbitration, and I don't care about your legal threats," David said, leaning over the table, his eyes locked onto Victor’s. "Here is how this is going to go. Either Apex pays Jorge Rodriguez a full, immediate settlement of five hundred thousand dollars for medical expenses and pain and suffering, or I withdraw my company’s endorsement of your city contract."
Victor gasped. "You would kill a ten-million-dollar deal over a laborer?"

"I would kill my entire company before I do business with a man who lets his workers starve," David said, his voice absolute. "You have until 9:00 AM tomorrow to deliver the signed settlement agreement to my office. If it’s not there, I will host a press conference on the steps of City Hall with Jorge’s medical files."
Victor stared at him, realizing that the tech mogul wasn't negotiating. He was delivering an ultimatum. Without a word, Victor grabbed his briefcase, stood up, and stormed out of the penthouse, his lawyer rushing to keep up with his pace.
