Chapter 10 - The New Circle

As the sun began to set, casting long, golden-pink shadows across the bay, they all sat together at the large wooden table on the deck.
Leo sat between Jorge and Maria, his plate piled high with food he didn't have to hide in a canvas bag anymore. He looked up at Maria, his blue space pajamas replaced by a bright beach shirt.
"Is your lunch big enough today, Maria?" Leo asked, his voice full of innocent, sweet concern.
Maria looked at the boy, then at David, her eyes shining with a deep, permanent peace. She reached over and squeezed Leo's small hand.

"It is perfect, Leo," she whispered. "My lunch, my family, and my home. They are all finally big enough."
David smiled, looking out at the ocean. He had spent his entire adult life building digital networks to connect the world, but he had finally learned that the most important connection is the simple, quiet bridge of empathy built between two human hearts in the middle of a quiet kitchen.
