Chapter 5 - The Corporate Shadow

The next week, David didn't just coordinate meals. He assigned his company’s top corporate legal team to look into Jorge’s construction accident.
His lead attorney, Sarah Vance, met him in his private office on the top floor of the Miller Tech Tower. She laid out a thick file of building permits and safety reports.
"David, the company Jorge worked for is Apex Infrastructure," Sarah said, her expression grim. "They are a massive subcontractor, but they have a history of bypassing safety protocols to meet deadlines. The scaffolding Jorge fell from was flagged for inspection two days before his accident, but the project manager ignored the warning to keep the site open."
"Can we sue them?" David asked, leaning forward.

"We can do more than that," Sarah smiled. "Apex is currently trying to secure a ten-million-dollar infrastructure contract with your startup’s smart-city initiative. They need your approval to proceed. If we present this safety violation to the city board, Apex will lose the contract and face federal safety audits."
David’s eyes hardened. "Call the CEO of Apex. Tell him I want a private meeting in my penthouse tomorrow evening. Tell him to bring his chief legal officer."
