Chapter 8 - A New Dawn on Long Island

The October wind still howled outside the tall windows of the Long Island mansion, but inside the private vault office, the storm had finally cleared.

Alessandro knelt down on one knee so he was at eye level with the three-year-old child. His stern, imposing demeanor softened entirely, revealing the deep, quiet scars of a man who understood what it meant to survive in a world without mercy.

He raised his hands, signing back with deliberate care: Yes. You are safe. No one will ever hurt you or your mother again.

Lily nodded seriously, clutching her threadbare gray rabbit tightly, before offering a small, trusting smile.

Alessandro stood up and turned to Rosa, who was wiping her eyes with her damp cleaning rag, standing up slowly with legs that felt like lead.

“Rosa,” Alessandro said, his voice steady and respectful. “For two years, you worked in this house under false pretenses, carrying a grief that was forced upon you by cowards who used my name to cover their crimes. That ends tonight.”

Rosa swallowed hard, her voice barely a whisper. “What will happen to us, Mr. Moretti?”

“You will never clean another floor in this house,” Alessandro stated firmly. “Effective immediately, you are appointed as the director of the Moretti Family Foundation’s educational and medical outreach programs, with a permanent estate endowment that will ensure Lily’s future, her education, and any specialized care she ever needs are fully provided for, for the rest of her life.”

Rosa stared at him in utter disbelief, fresh tears spilling over her lashes. “I... I don't know what to say. I can't accept—that’s too much—”

“It is a fraction of what is owed to you and your husband,” Alessandro corrected gently. “Furthermore, the Duca family assets seized during tonight’s operation will be placed into a trust bearing Miguel Delgado’s name, honoring his true legacy as an honest man who died trying to expose corruption.”

Rosa reached out, her hand trembling slightly as she touched Alessandro’s sleeve—a gesture of profound gratitude that no ordinary employee would ever dare make to the head of the Moretti syndicate. Alessandro didn't pull away. He placed his large hand over hers for a brief second in a silent pact of protection.
