Chapter 9 - Justice and Restitution

By dawn, the Long Island estate had returned to an eerie, artificial calm. The remaining guests had been discreetly escorted off the premises under the guise of an unexpected family emergency, their memories managed by Moretti’s legal and public relations clean-up crews before a single word of the scandal could leak to the press.
The federal authorities and local police departments, long influenced or manipulated by Duca money, received a comprehensive digital package containing every intercepted wire transfer, forensic audit, and authenticated confession detailing the Duca family’s decades of illegal laundering and conspiracy. By noon, simultaneous raids across northern New Jersey dismantled the Duca syndicate entirely, arresting key leadership figures and freezing all remaining corporate accounts.
Inside the mansion’s private clinic, Rosa and Lily spent their first peaceful morning in years. A team of pediatric specialists examined Lily to ensure she was healthy and thriving, while educational consultants discussed advanced sign language immersion programs tailored specifically for her brilliant, observant mind.
Alessandro sat in his private study, looking out over the autumn gardens where the dead roses were being cleared away by groundskeepers.
Marco stepped into the room, placing a final dossier on the mahogany desk.
“Everything is wrapped up, Boss,” Marco reported. “Luca and Vivian are being held in the federal annex awaiting arraignment. The Duca syndicate is a smoking ruin. The board has signed off on the restructuring of the shipping lines under a clean management protocol.”
Alessandro nodded slowly, his fingers tracing the edge of his coffee cup. “And the Delgado family?”

“They’ve been moved into the secure north-wing guest residence while their permanent estate home in Manhattan is being prepared,” Marco smiled faintly. “Little Lily is already terrorizing the kitchen staff by teaching the sous chef how to sign ‘more cookies’ in sign language.”
A rare, genuine ghost of a smile touched Alessandro’s lips. “Good. Make sure she gets all the cookies she wants.”
