Chapter 6 - Confrontation in the Vault

The secure vault office was large, lined with thick mahogany walls, digital monitors, and a reinforced glass conference table that overlooked the northern stretch of the Long Island estate.
When Rosa Delgado walked in, her hands were still damp from dishwater, clutching a blue cleaning rag nervously. Her dark hair was pulled back in a tight bun, and her eyes widened in sheer terror when she saw Alessandro Moretti standing at the head of the table, flanked by armed security, with a battered, crying Luca and a defiant Vivian sitting in handcuffs along the side.
Behind Rosa walked Marco, gently guiding little Lily by the hand. Lily clutched her gray rabbit, her wide eyes scanning the strange room before she spotted Alessandro and raised a small hand to sign a quiet greeting.
Hello, tall man.
Alessandro’s stern expression softened by a fraction. He nodded back to the child, using his fingers to sign: Thank you, little one.
Rosa dropped to her knees immediately, pulling Lily protectively behind her skirts. “Mr. Moretti, please—whatever she broke, whatever happened in the kitchen, I swear I will pay for it out of my wages, just don't—please—”
“Stand up, Rosa,” Alessandro said, his voice firm but entirely devoid of the cruelty she had expected.
Rosa hesitated, looking up into his face.
“You are not in trouble,” Alessandro continued, turning his gaze toward Luca and Vivian, whose faces had drained of all color as they realized who had just entered the room. “In fact, your daughter has just saved my life. And she has uncovered something that has been hidden from me for a very long time.”
Vivian sneered, pulling her handcuffed wrists against the arm of the chair. “You’re listening to a cleaning woman and a deaf toddler? Have you lost your mind, Alessandro? This is a coup staged by your own paranoia!”
“Shut up, Vivian,” Luca muttered, staring down at the polished wood table, completely broken. He knew the moment the security logs came out, his game was over.
Alessandro walked over to the desk, picking up the thick manila folder Marco had brought him. He tossed it down directly in front of Vivian. Photographs spilled out across the glass table—construction site blueprints, forged death certificates, wire transfer receipts from shell companies, and explicit bank records showing payoffs channeled directly from the Duca family accounts to the men who covered up Miguel Delgado’s murder.
Vivian’s breath caught in her throat. She stared at the photographs, her hands trembling violently.
“Miguel Delgado was a good man,” Alessandro said softly, his voice dropping into a register that made everyone in the room hold their breath. “He worked for my shipping network. He died on a site tied to your family, murdered because he discovered corruption within my ranks that my closest adviser helped conceal.”
Rosa gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. Tears welled up in her dark eyes as she looked from the photographs up to Alessandro, the horrific truth finally breaking over her like a tidal wave.

“Miguel... my husband... they didn't just fall?” Rosa whispered, her voice cracking with raw, agonizing grief.
“No, Rosa,” Alessandro said, stepping closer to her with an uncharacteristic gentleness. “They murdered him. And tonight, they tried to murder me to finish the cover-up.”
