Chapter 9 - The Anniversary of the Miracle

One year to the day after Roman walked into Bella Rosa Trattoria with a triple stroller and changed the course of my life forever, we held a quiet, private celebration at the estate.

There were no bodyguards standing watch inside the dining room, no tense business associates, and no lingering shadows from the past.

Just a candlelit dinner on the back patio overlooking the glittering waters of Lake Michigan as the autumn leaves drifted down around us.

Inside the house, the children were fast asleep in their beds, worn out from a full day of eating birthday cake and playing in the leaves.

Roman poured two glasses of vintage wine, handing one to me as we stood leaning against the stone balcony railing.

"Can you believe it's been a year?" I asked softly, watching the moonlight dance across the surface of the lake.

"Sometimes it feels like we lived an entire lifetime in the span of twelve months," Roman replied, turning his head to look at me. He was wearing a simple dark button-down shirt, the wind catching his dark hair. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-covered box.

My breath caught in my throat.

"Roman..." I started, looking up at him.

"When I first met you in that restaurant," Roman said, his voice deep and steady, carrying an emotional intensity that made my heart race, "I thought I was just a man trying to control a chaotic world. I didn't realize that God, fate, or the universe was trying to give me back my family. You brought my children back to life, Pamela. And you brought me back, too."

He opened the box. Inside rested a stunning, custom-designed platinum ring set with three small, brilliant diamonds flanked by delicate bands—one diamond for each of our children, bound together by an unbreakable circle.

"Will you marry me, Pamela?" he asked, his hazel eyes shining with absolute, unfiltered love. "Will you make this family permanent?"

Tears welled up in my eyes, spilling over my lashes as I threw my arms around his neck, pulling him into a fierce, desperate embrace.

May you like

"Yes," I choked out against his shoulder. "Yes, Roman. A million times, yes."

He slid the ring onto my finger, pulled me close, and kissed me—a deep, grounding kiss that sealed away every ounce of pain from our past and opened the door to a future without limits.
