The Whitmore Medical Group was gone, its assets restructured and rebranded under a new name: The Vance Foundation for Burn Recovery. Claire had taken full control of the hospitals, using the recovered offshore funds to turn the corrupt wing into a true sanctuary for survivors of traumatic injuries.
Dr. Ethan Hale walked into Claire’s new executive office overlooking the city. He carried a clipboard, his standard white lab coat replaced by a casual blazer.
"How are the physical therapy sessions going?" Ethan asked, sitting down across from her desk.
Claire smiled, lifting her left arm. The range of motion wasn't perfect, and the smooth, pale pink graft tissue on her shoulder would always be a reminder of that kitchen floor, but the pain was gone. "The therapists say I'll be back to full strength by the end of the year."

"I spent six years building those clinics, Ethan," Claire said, looking out at the city. "I wasn't going to let a monster turn them into a crime scene."
