Chapter 6 - The Verdict

The next morning, the courtroom was packed to capacity. The media had caught wind of the "Boiling Oil Medical Scandal," and reporters lined the back walls like vultures.

Margaret Whitmore sat at her table, her expression serene, almost arrogant. She believed her legal team had successfully obscured the financial trail to Panama during the night.

Sarah Vance stood up, holding the silver USB drive Ryan had provided. "Your Honor, we have new evidence that directly links the defendant to an ongoing attempt to embezzle forty million dollars from the Whitmore Medical Group assets that were frozen by this court yesterday."

Margaret's lawyer stood up immediately. "Objection! This evidence was gathered outside discovery rules and its origin is unverified."

"The origin is verified by the co-CEO of the company, Your Honor," Sarah countered, pointing to the back of the room, where Ryan stood flanked by two federal marshals. "Ryan Whitmore has turned state's evidence."

Margaret spun around, her face twisting into an expression of pure, unadulterated venom as she looked at her son. "You pathetic, cowardly little boy," she hissed, her voice echoing through the silent courtroom. "Everything I built was for you! You would be nothing without my name!"

"You didn't build it for me, Mom," Ryan said, his voice shaking but clear. "You built it for yourself. And you burned the only person who actually loved us to do it."
