Chapter 7 - The Recovery

The judge slammed his gavel down, restoring order as the courtroom erupted into murmurs.
"Given the severity of the new evidence and the high flight risk demonstrated by the attempted liquidation of frozen assets," the judge announced, "bail for Margaret Whitmore is revoked. She will be remanded to federal custody immediately pending trial for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, corporate fraud, and the manufacture of unapproved medical substances."
As the bailiffs stepped forward to cuff Margaret's wrists, she looked back at Claire one last time. There were no pearls or tears now—just the raw, desperate fury of a fallen tyrant. "You think you won, Claire? You're ruined! Your body is scarred, your marriage is dead, and you have nothing!"

Claire stood up, leaning heavily on her cane but keeping her chin high. She looked at the woman who had tried to destroy her, then at the bandages wrapping her own flesh.
"My scars will heal, Margaret," Claire said, her voice steady and echoing with an absolute triumph. "But your name will never be spoken in a hospital again."
