Chapter 7 - The Gate at MIA

The Boeing touched down with a smooth screech of rubber against asphalt, reversing its engines as the aircraft decelerated down the runway and taxied toward Terminal D.
As the seatbelt sign chimed, passengers immediately began unbuckling, rustling through overhead bins, and jostling for position in the aisle.
“Stay seated,” I instructed Julian, not moving an inch from seat 7C.
He looked at me, bewildered and terrified. “What? Everyone’s getting off—”
“I said stay seated,” I repeated, my tone carrying a chilling, absolute authority that made him freeze.
Chloe unbuckled her belt immediately, her face burning with humiliation as she grabbed her designer tote bag from beneath the seat in front of her. She didn't look at Julian. She didn't say goodbye. She shoved past him into the aisle, keeping her head down as she hurried toward the front of the cabin with the first wave of disembarking passengers.
Julian sat alone in seat 7B, a broken man trapped between his mistress’s hasty escape and his wife’s unyielding judgment.
We waited until nearly the entire cabin had cleared out.
“Let’s go, Julian,” I said, standing up smoothly and grabbing my leather folder from my lap.
He stood up slowly, his legs shaky as he stepped out into the aisle. We walked down the narrow tube of the jet bridge together, stepping out into the bustling, sunlit terminal of Miami International Airport.
Before we even reached the main concourse, two men in sharp gray suits stepped out from behind a structural pillar, blocking our path.
Julian stopped dead in his tracks, his breath catching in his throat.
The taller man stepped forward, flashing a polished gold badge and a leather-bound identification folder.
“Mr. Julian Moretti?” the investigator asked, his voice crisp and professional.
Julian swallowed hard, nodding mutely.
“I’m Special Investigator Vance, representing the federal receivership and forensic audit division acting on behalf of Mrs. Clara Moretti,” the man said smoothly, pulling a thick packet of legal documents from his briefcase. “You are hereby served with a federal asset freeze notice, an emergency injunction on all offshore and domestic corporate accounts, and a subpoena for deposition regarding fraudulent concealment of marital assets.”
He handed the papers directly to Julian’s trembling hands.
“You have seventy-two hours to surrender all cryptographic keys, corporate ledgers, and financial records to the court-appointed receiver,” the investigator continued, before turning his gaze toward me and nodding respectfully. “Good afternoon, Mrs. Moretti. Your legal team in Boston has already secured the preliminary injunction on the primary residential properties.”

“Thank you, Investigator,” I said, adjusting the strap of my handbag over my shoulder.
Julian stood there in the middle of the crowded airport terminal, holding a stack of legal doom while travelers rushed past him to catch their connecting flights. The dream of a new life in Miami with Chloe—funded by stolen equity and hidden accounts—had evaporated before his feet even touched the Florida pavement.
