Chapter 10 - First Class to Anywhere

A year after the flight to Miami, I booked another ticket.
This time, there was no subterfuge. No hidden browser tabs. No private investigator reports.
It was a first-class ticket to London, booked under my own name, paid for with my own hard-earned revenue from my thriving architectural design firm.
Maya and I were taking our first major international vacation together—just the two of us, exploring European museums, historic architecture, and new horizons.
As I walked down the jet bridge at Logan Airport, handing my boarding pass to the gate agent, I paused for a split second to look down at the seat assignment printed on the slip.
Seat 1A.
Window seat. First class. All to myself.
I smiled, walked down the aisle, and settled into the plush leather seat, storing my carry-on bag in the overhead compartment with absolute ease.
When the flight attendant offered me a glass of sparkling water before takeoff, I accepted it graciously, looking out the window as the massive jet prepared to push back from the gate.
I didn't look back down the aisle. I didn't wonder who was sitting behind me, or what secrets they might be hiding.
