Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

Six months later, the corporate world had entirely adapted to the new reality of Sterling International.

We were holding our annual global leadership summit in the grand ballroom of the Palmer House Hilton in downtown Chicago. Over five hundred international executives, investors, and industry leaders filled the room, murmuring quietly as the house lights dimmed.

Marcus walked out onto the elevated stage first, microphone in hand, offering a warm, gracious welcome to the assembled crowd before turning toward the side wings.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Marcus announced, his voice ringing clearly across the hall. “Under her leadership, Sterling International has achieved record-breaking growth, expanded our global portfolio by forty percent, and re-established our gold standard of corporate integrity. It is my absolute honor to introduce to you the sole Chief Executive Officer and Chairwoman of the Board... my sister, Victoria Sterling.”

The ballroom erupted into thunderous, standing-ovation applause.

Hundreds of people turned toward the center aisle as I stepped out from behind the velvet curtains.

I wore a stunning, emerald-green silk tailored pantsuit that caught the stage lights, my head held high, my stride unhesitating and absolute. I didn't walk like a victim of betrayal. I didn't walk like a woman recovering from a nightmare.

I walked like a sovereign queen who had burned her own kingdom to the ground just to salt the earth and build something infinitely stronger, purer, and entirely untouchable from the ashes.

I reached the center of the stage, smiled out at the sea of faces, and stepped up to the microphone.

Richard Sterling was rotting in a federal prison cell six hundred miles away, forgotten by the world he had tried to steal. And I? I was just getting started.
