Chapter 5 - The Collapse of the Dynasty

By midnight, the backyard was empty of guests, leaving only the glowing candles, the half-eaten catering, and the silent, cold wind rustling the jacaranda tree.
Aurelio and Rodrigo sat on the terrace steps, their heads in their hands, as two agents monitored them. The silver-haired Director Fuentes walked out of the house, holding a red leather folder.
"We found the Delaware ledger, Valeria," Fuentes said, offering her a faint, respectful nod. "Along with three million dollars in undeclared assets. Your cooperation has been invaluable. The prosecutor’s office will contact you tomorrow to finalize your immunity agreement as the whistleblower."
"Thank you, Director," Valeria said.
She turned to look at Rodrigo. He looked up at her, his eyes hollow, the arrogant, charming man she had loved completely gone.

"Vale," he whispered. "Please. My father’s heart... he can't handle prison. If you tell them the signatures on the Delaware files were forged, we can—"
"They weren't forged, Rodrigo," Valeria said. "You signed them. And so did Camila. You both wanted to be partners in everything. Now you get to share the cell."
