Chapter 3 - The Locked Office

Two of Director Fuentes's agents bypassed the guests, walking straight toward the side entrance of the house.

"Wait!" Rodrigo’s mother, Sofia, shrieked, running to block them. "You can't go in there! That’s our private quarters!"

"Actually, Mrs. Vargas, the search warrant covers the entire premises," Director Fuentes said, gesturing to her agents. "We have reason to believe that the physical ledgers and encryption keys for the Delaware accounts are stored in the home office."

"There is no office!" Rodrigo lied, his voice cracking. "It’s just a guest room."

"I opened the door for them, Rodrigo," Valeria said quietly. "Before I walked into the backyard, I used my security app to disable the smart-locks on the study. I also gave Director Fuentes the master password to your private server."

"You... you betrayed us," Rodrigo whispered, taking a step toward her, his face twisted in a mixture of rage and disbelief. "Six years, Valeria! We were partners!"

"We were never partners, Rodrigo," Valeria said, her voice dropping to a whisper that only he could hear. "I was your bank account. And she was your escape. But today, the bills are due."
