Chapter 7 - The Final Confession

Nathan laughed, a hollow sound that bounced off the vaulted ceiling. He stood up, turning to face Dominic. He didn't look like a man who had lost; he looked like a man who had expected this exact scenario.
"Do you want to know why she died, Dom?" Nathan asked, gesturing to the stained glass depicting the saints. "Elena? You think it was a random hit from a rival? It was the price of your ambition. You were becoming too powerful, too untouchable. The Syndicate didn't want a King; they wanted a puppet. I gave them what they wanted by helping you grow, and then I kept you under control by cutting off your heart."
"You killed her," Dominic said, his voice a low, dangerous vibration.
"I orchestrated the 'accident.' Claire finished the job," Nathan admitted, his eyes gleaming with a manic light. "She was the one who tampered with the brake lines. She’s been the shadow behind you since the day you hired her. We didn't just want the money, Dom. We wanted to watch you build an empire that we would eventually inherit, piece by piece."
Mia, struggling against her bindings, caught Dominic’s eye. She shook her head, pleading for him to focus. She knew the secret was in the pendant.
Dominic’s thumb brushed the silver bird in his pocket. He realized that the micro-SD card contained more than just evidence—it contained the master codes to the Syndicate’s global treasury. Nathan didn't want his empire; he wanted his bank account.

"You think you’ve won," Dominic said, his gaze shifting to Claire, who stepped out from behind the altar, holding a detonator.
"The house is rigged, Dominic," Claire said, her voice devoid of emotion. "If you don't hand over that pendant and the codes, this entire chapel—and everything you love—goes up in flames. We don't need you anymore."
