Chapter 6 - The Siege of the Sacred Ground

The private chapel was a gothic relic of stone and stained glass, perched precariously on the edge of the Hudson cliffs. For seventeen years, it had been the place where Dominic sought forgiveness for sins that couldn't be absolved. Tonight, it would serve as his battlefield.
Dominic moved through the dense brush, his silhouette swallowed by the dark. He watched the chapel through the sights of his pistol. Six guards were stationed around the perimeter—all men he had personally hired. He recognized their tactical formation; they were using his own playbook. He smiled grimly. If they were using his tactics, they were also tethered to his limitations.
He pulled a small EMP device from his vest—a prototype he’d commissioned years ago—and threw it toward the chapel’s transformer box. A muted thrum rippled through the air, followed by the sound of popping electrical conduits. The perimeter floodlights died, plunging the grounds into chaotic darkness.
"Contact! Sector North!" a guard shouted.
Dominic didn't wait. He moved forward, a shadow among shadows. He wasn't playing defense; he was hunting. He took down the first two guards with silent, surgical efficiency, their bodies hitting the soft earth before they could even draw their rifles. He transitioned to the rear entrance of the chapel, his movements a blur of kinetic energy.
Inside, the air was heavy with the smell of old incense and candle wax. At the altar, bathed in the moonlight streaming through the stained glass, sat Nathan. He held a glass of whiskey, his demeanor unnervingly calm. Mia and Harper were tied to the heavy oak pews near the front.

"You’re late, brother," Nathan said, not turning around. "I thought the tunnels might have slowed you down."
"It’s not a brotherly visit, Nathan," Dominic stepped into the light, his weapon leveled at Nathan’s chest. "It’s an execution."
