Chapter 6 - The Aftermath of Fire

The betrayal went deeper than Vane. Nathan’s own security detail had been bribed to overlook the intruders who had entered the house that night.
As the police were called to arrest the conspirators, a fire broke out in the east wing—a diversionary tactic by Vane’s associates to destroy the final proof.
“Lily!” Claire screamed, abandoning her post and sprinting toward the library.
Nathan didn't hesitate. He ignored the panicked donors and the shouting lawyers, running after Claire.
The library was thick with smoke. He found Claire huddled on the floor, shielding Lily with her own body.
