Chapter 5 - The Gala Storm

The donor dinner arrived. It was the most important night of the year, and Julian Vane planned to present a motion to the board to declare Nathan unfit.
The ballroom was packed with the Charleston elite. Nathan entered, not in his mourning suit, but in a tailored tuxedo. He looked like the man he had been before Abigail died—sharp, dangerous, and alert.
Claire was working the room, keeping an eye on Lily, who was happily playing in the library with a new box of crayons.
Vane approached Nathan with a fake, toothy grin. “Nathan, we’ve been waiting for you to address the board.”
“I have an address,” Nathan said, stepping onto the dais.
He pulled a document from his pocket—the proof of the board’s secret sell-off plans.
