Chapter 10 - The Sea Glass Horizon

They stood on the deck of a small boat off the coast of Sullivan’s Island.
Lily was sitting on the railing, looking for shells. Claire and Nathan stood side by side, watching the sun set over the water, painting the horizon in shades of amber, green, and milky white—the same colors as the sea glass mobile.
“Do you ever think about the house?” Claire asked.
“Sometimes,” Nathan said, holding her hand. “But then I look at this, and I realize the house was just a place. Home is where you’re not afraid to be sad, and you’re not afraid to be happy.”
Lily ran over, holding up a new piece of glass.
“Look, Mommy! Look, Nathan! It’s blue!”
Nathan took the glass, smiling. He didn't put it in a display case. He didn't lock it away in a safe.
He tossed it back into the ocean, letting the tide take it.
“It’s better when it’s free,” he said.
