Chapter 5 - The Midnight Breach

Two weeks after that night, the fragile peace shattered into a million pieces.

It was 2:14 a.m. Sienna was working late in her apartment, cross-referencing a series of offshore wire transfers from a new holding company that had suddenly appeared in the Moretti network: Vostok Global. The name alone made her skin crawl. The Russian Bratva had been pushing into Chicago territory for six months, trading blood and bullets with the Moretti syndicate over dock control.

Why was Vostok Global moving capital through Moretti Holdings?

Suddenly, her computer screen flickered violently. A red security warning popped up across the monitor: UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS DETECTED — ROOT DIRECTORY COMPROMISED.

Before she could reach for her phone, the lights in her apartment blew out with a sharp pop.

Panic surged through her veins. She grabbed her keys, bolted toward the hallway door, but before her fingers could touch the deadbolt, the door exploded inward.

Heavy boots slammed against the hardwood floor. Three masked men rushed into the dark apartment, moving with terrifying military precision. Before Sienna could scream, a heavy hand clamped over her mouth, and a cold steel barrel pressed firmly against the side of her neck.

"Don't make a sound, little accountant," a harsh, accented voice hissed in her ear. "Or the boss gets his favorite toy back in a body bag."

They didn't rob her. They didn't beat her. They dragged her toward the open window and shoved a dark burlap sack over her head. The last thing she remembered before consciousness slipped away was the sickening scent of cheap cologne and damp earth.
