Chapter 8 - The Return to Rosewood

A year later, Ethan found himself standing on the grounds of Rosewood Manor again. It had been sold to a foundation, but he had requested permission to visit.
He stood under the arch of white roses where his life had almost taken the wrong turn.
Maria and Lily were with him.
Lily ran through the grass, her hair flowing in the wind. She stopped under the arch, turning back to look at them.
“It’s beautiful here!” she shouted.
Ethan looked at Maria. She looked different—less like the woman who kept her head down and more like the woman who stood tall in her own strength.
“I was so afraid here,” Ethan admitted, his voice a whisper.

“Fear is just the beginning,” Maria said, taking his hand. “It’s what you do after the fear that counts.”
Ethan squeezed her hand. He realized then that he wasn't afraid of the future anymore. He was ready for it.
