Chapter 6 - The Trust

Ethan began to rebuild his life, not with money, but with intention. He founded a scholarship for single mothers—the "Grace Cole Foundation"—named after his own mother. He focused on the people who had stood by him when his life was falling apart.

He asked Maria to have dinner with him one night—not as his housekeeper, but as an equal.

They sat on the balcony, overlooking the Manhattan skyline.

“You knew,” Ethan said, staring out at the city. “You knew Vanessa was a fraud, and you never said a word.”

“I couldn’t, sir,” Maria said quietly. “You were so happy. I was just the help. Who would have believed me?”

“I would,” Ethan said, turning to look at her. “I should have.”

“It’s okay,” Maria said. “You learned. And that’s what matters.”

For the first time in his life, Ethan realized that his mother’s definition of wealth was exactly right. It wasn't about the money he made or the systems he built. It was about the integrity of the people he invited into his world.
