Chapter 4 - The Legacy of Lucia

Hours later, the sterile white lights of the hospital recovery room hummed quietly. Natalie lay pale against the pillows, her newborn son resting safely in a clear incubator across the room. He had arrived early, small and fragile, but breathing on his own.

The door clicked open, and Frank stepped inside. He looked older, weighed down by a secret he could no longer keep.

"How is he?" Frank asked quietly.

"He’s fighting," Natalie said, her voice raspy. She looked at the older man. "You stayed. Why?"

Frank closed the door, locking it softly behind him. He walked over and placed the crumpled photograph on her bedside table, face up. Natalie stared at the image of the silver falcon bracelet.

"Michael thinks he runs Chicago," Frank said, leaning against the chair. "He thinks his money, his logistics empire, and his new political friends make him untouchable. But he forgot where he came from. He forgot who gave him the startup capital for DeLuca Atlantic Logistics."

Natalie’s breath hitched. "Lucia Bellini."

"Your mother’s sister," Frank nodded. "The woman who vanished ten years ago right after signing over her shipping empire’s quiet assets to Michael under a forced NDA. Michael told everyone she fled to Europe. But she didn't."

Natalie pushed herself up slightly, wincing at the surgical pain. "Where is she?"

"She’s alive, Natalie. And based on this photo left on my car tonight, someone powerful just found her. Someone who wants Michael to pay for what he did to your family."

Natalie looked at her sleeping son, then down at the ringless finger on her left hand. The cheap toy narrative Michael had spun for three hundred guests was about to shatter permanently.
