Chapter 7 - The New Beginning

Two years later.
The sun was setting over a small lake house in Michigan. Adam sat on the porch, watching his children play in the grass. Ben was walking now, stumbling after Sophie, who was showing him how to skip stones. Natalie walked out, carrying a tray of lemonade.
"You look like you're thinking," she said, sitting beside him.
Adam looked out at the water, the peace of the evening washing over him. "I was thinking about that doghouse. How strange it is that the worst night of our lives was also the night we finally became free."
"We didn't just survive," Natalie said, leaning her head on his shoulder. "We woke up."
Adam smiled, watching his family—his real wealth—playing in the golden light. He had lost the empire, the mansion, and the name, but he had found the only thing that actually mattered: a future that was truly his own.
