Chapter 5 - The Reconstruction

The aftermath was a slow, painful process of rebuilding. The company was placed under federal receivership, and Adam spent weeks working with auditors to untangle the web of lies. It was a tedious, grueling task, but with each layer he peeled back, he felt a weight lifting from his chest.
Sophie began therapy, her nightmares slowly fading. Natalie remained his rock, her strength unwavering as they navigated the scrutiny of the public eye.
They sold the mansion. It was a house of ghosts, a place where the air felt thick with trauma. They moved to a quiet, modest home in the suburbs, far from the reach of the company’s toxicity.
One evening, Sophie found him in the garage, working on his old workbench. She stood in the doorway, clutching her tablet.
"Are they ever coming back?" she asked.
Adam stopped his work and knelt down, pulling her into a hug. "No, Sophie. They aren't."
"Are we poor now?"
