Chapter 5 - The Collapse of the Castle
The color drained from Gloria’s face so fast she had to grab her daughter’s shoulder to stay upright.
"No," she gasped. "No, that’s impossible. We are the Ralstons."
"You were the Ralstons," I said, looking her directly in the eyes. "But today, you are just people occupying my property. And the lease has been revoked."
Graham reached out, trying to grab my arm, but one of the sheriffs stepped forward, his hand resting casually on his utility belt. Graham pulled his hand back as if he had been burned.
"Jocelyn, please," Graham whispered, his bravado completely shattered. "We can talk about this. In private. Why are you doing this in front of my family? Today was my celebration!"
"Your celebration?" I asked. "You watched your mother humiliate your daughters. You watched Ruby cry because she was told she didn't deserve to sit at a table because of her gender. And you told me not to ruin your day."
I leaned in closer, so only he could hear the ice in my words. "Your day is over, Graham. And so is your marriage."

The guests were already beginning to stand, whispering frantically among themselves. Some of the cousins were trying to slip away toward their cars, but the security guards were already blocking the circular driveway.
"The vehicles parked in the driveway," Daniel announced, referring to the luxury SUVs Graham had rented to show off to his family. "The rental agency has been notified of a breach of contract. The tow trucks are already at the gate."
