Chapter 10 - The Restoration of the Hearth

Three months later.
The summer sun was warm, casting a brilliant gold light across the white marble foyer of the Vale estate. The broken blue ceramic planter had been replaced by a beautiful, hand-carved mahogany bench, and the double front doors stood wide open to welcome the fresh sea breeze.
Margaret Vale sat on the bench, her hand resting warmly over Nora’s. She was dressed in a simple, elegant yellow linen dress, her hair beautifully styled, her eyes bright and completely clear.
The pinhole cameras had been removed from the walls. The house felt lighter, its cold, sterile atmosphere replaced by the warm, living energy of a home that was finally loved again.
Daniel walked into the foyer, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade and cookies. He set it down on the console table and sat beside his mother.
"The lawyers finalized the divorce papers today, Mom," Daniel said softly, taking her hand. "The estate is entirely back in your name. And Holloway Logistics has been liquidated to pay back the stolen funds."
Margaret smiled, her eyes looking toward the open rose gardens through the French doors of the blue sitting room.

"I don't care about the money, Daniel," she said, her voice strong and steady. "I only care that my family is back in this house. And that we can finally hear the wind."
Daniel looked at Nora, then back at his mother, feeling a deep, profound sense of peace settle over his shoulders. The storm had passed, the masks had been torn away, and in the quiet light of the summer afternoon, the Vale family was finally home.
