The next morning, the battle shifted from the rain-soaked coast to the clean, sterile offices of the county courthouse.
Daniel, backed by Ethan’s official medical evaluation and a team of forensic accountants, filed an emergency petition to freeze all trust disbursements and suspend Elise’s power of attorney.
"Your Honor," Daniel’s attorney argued, presenting a tray of red and blue capsules recovered from Margaret’s suite. "We have chemical analysis proving that Margaret Vale was being systematically chemically restrained with unprescribed sedatives to simulate the advanced stages of dementia."
Elise’s legal team fought back, presenting the signed Power of Attorney and Dr. Sterling’s evaluation.
But the turning point came when Dr. Ethan Hale took the stand.
"Your Honor," Ethan said, his voice calm and authoritative. "I conducted a full neurological panel on Margaret Vale this morning. Her blood toxicology report shows toxic levels of Lorazepam—a drug that, when combined with her mild cognitive impairment, would make her highly suggestible and completely unable to comprehend the legal documents she was forced to sign. This isn't medical care. This is elder abuse."

The judge looked at the toxicology reports, then at Elise, who sat at the defense table. Her expensive silk dress could not hide the sudden, cold sweat shining on her forehead.
"The power of attorney is suspended immediately," the judge ruled, slamming his gavel down. "A full forensic audit of Holloway Logistics is ordered. And Mrs. Elise Vale is ordered to vacate the Vale estate within twelve hours."
