Chapter 7 - The Final Judgment

The courtroom was stiflingly hot, the air smelling of old paper and floor wax.

Judge Elena Morales sat behind a high mahogany bench, her expression stern and impenetrable as she reviewed the thick stack of legal briefs, financial ledgers, and digital exhibits submitted by Mariana’s legal team.

For two hours, Mateo Silva dismantled Daniel’s defense piece by piece, presenting incontrovertible proof of financial abandonment, emotional abuse, and—most crucially—the physical endangerment of minor child Camila Falkner during the incident on the balcony.

When Carmen attempted to interrupt the proceedings from the gallery, Judge Morales banged her gavel with a force that made the entire room jump.

“One more outburst from the gallery, Mrs. Falkner, and you will be held in contempt of court and removed in handcuffs,” Judge Morales warned sharply.

Carmen shrank back into her seat, biting her trembling lip.

Finally, Judge Morales adjusted her reading glasses and looked down at the petitioner and respondent standing before the bench. Mariana stood tall, composed, and radiant, her hand resting gently on Camila’s small backpack sitting on the chair beside her. Daniel stood slumped over, defeated, his spirit completely crushed.

“This court has reviewed all testimonies, digital logs, financial records, and evidence of gross negligence,” Judge Morales announced, her voice echoing clearly through the microphone.

“It is the ruling of this court that the petition for dissolution of marriage is hereby granted with prejudice against the respondent, Daniel Falkner, due to documented financial malfeasance and emotional cruelty. Sole legal and physical custody of minor child Camila Falkner is awarded exclusively to petitioner Mariana Vale, with zero visitation rights granted to Carmen Falkner or Valeria Falkner due to demonstrated patterns of child endangerment and psychological abuse.”

A collective gasp echoed from the gallery.

Daniel buried his face in his hands, soft, broken sobs escaping his throat.

“Furthermore,” Judge Morales continued, her gaze locking onto Daniel, “all marital asset claims filed by the respondent are summarily dismissed. The Polanco residential property is confirmed as protected pre-marital trust asset held exclusively for the welfare of the minor child. Mr. Falkner has forty-eight hours to surrender all corporate electronic devices and settle his outstanding tax liabilities with the federal prosecutor's office.”

She brought the gavel down with a sharp, final crack.

Case closed.
