PART 5 – Epilogue

One year later, I returned to the small hill overlooking the lake where Daniel and Sophia rested together.

I brought fresh lilies.

Sophia's favorite stuffed rabbit sat beside the headstone exactly where I had left it.

The federal government had established a transportation safety fund using money recovered from the corruption scheme.

New inspection standards carried Daniel's name.

A scholarship for children who had lost parents in roadway accidents carried Sophia's.

Their lives had changed more people than they ever knew.

I knelt beside their graves.

"I miss you every day," I whispered.

"The house is quiet.

The mornings are still hard.

But I kept my promise."

A gentle breeze moved through the trees.

For the first time since the funeral, I didn't feel consumed by anger.

Only love.

Only memory.

Only hope that the truth had saved someone else's family.

I stood, placed one final flower beneath their names, and walked away—not because I was leaving them behind, but because they had given me the strength to keep living.

THE END
