Chapter 2 - The Billionaire's Ghost

Miles away, in the sprawling, glass-enclosed penthouse overlooking the glittering Manhattan skyline, Arthur Vance sat alone in total darkness.

The room was silent except for the low, rhythmic hum of a customized medical mainframe humming in the corner. Arthur, a man whose wealth could buy nations and whose word could topple governments, looked smaller tonight. Gray-haired, sharp-featured, and perpetually exhausted, he stared at a framed portrait on his mahogany desk.

It was a picture of his only son, Julian Vance, and his late daughter-in-law, who had vanished under mysterious circumstances six months ago following a bitter corporate coup within the Vance empire.

The door to the study clicked open. Marcus, the head of private security, stepped inside, his footsteps silent on the thick Persian rug.

"Sir," Marcus said, his voice hesitant. "We’ve checked all the perimeter security logs around the private maternity clinic in Manhattan where the surrogate gave birth. The internal surveillance footage has been corrupted."

Arthur slowly turned his head, his eyes cold and hollow. "Corrupted? Or erased by someone on my own board?"

"We believe it was an inside job, Mr. Vance," Marcus replied, stepping closer. "Your newborn grandson was taken from the private nursery wing before dawn. The board members who opposed your succession plan wanted to ensure the direct bloodline was broken. They thought disposing of the heir would force you to hand over executive control."

Arthur stood up so fast his chair scraped loudly against the floor. A terrifying, icy fury radiated from him—the same ruthless determination that had built the Vance empire from the ground up.

"Find my grandson," Arthur commanded, his voice dropping to a dangerous, vibrating whisper. "I don't care how many millions it costs. Tear the city apart block by block, alley by alley, dumpster by dumpster. If a single hair on that boy's head is harmed, I will personally strip every last board member of their titles, their shares, and their freedom."

"We're searching every sector, sir," Marcus said, bowing his head. "But the city is vast. And whoever took him... they didn't leave a single trace."
