Chapter 6 - The Turning Point

"That won't be necessary, Christopher," a deep, authoritative voice boomed from the entrance of the main dining room.
Everyone turned.
Walking into the dining room was an elderly man with silver hair, impeccably dressed in a classic navy three-piece suit. He walked with a mahogany cane, but his gait was strong, his presence commanding an instant aura of absolute power. Behind him walked two lawyers carrying leather briefcases.
Christopher Hale froze. The color visibly drained from his face.
"Arthur?" Christopher muttered, his voice suddenly lacking all of its previous bravado.
Arthur Hale. The founder of Hale International, former CEO, and Christopher's father.
Arthur walked slowly toward Table 4, the thud of his cane against the marble floor echoing in the silence. His sharp blue eyes scanned the scene—the spilled champagne, his trembling grandson, the arrogant son, and the young waitress standing tall between them.
"Grandpa," Ethan signed quickly, his face lighting up with relief.
Arthur raised a hand and signed back smoothly, fluently: I came as soon as you texted me, Ethan.
Christopher stared at his father in disbelief. "Arthur, what are you doing here? This is a private dinner—"
"Shut up, Christopher," Arthur said softly, without even looking at his son.
Arthur stepped up to Ethan, placing a warm, gentle hand on the boy's shoulder. He looked at Ethan's hearing aids, then at his flushed face. "Are you alright, my boy?"
"I... am now," Ethan said softly.
Arthur turned his attention to Christopher. His eyes were cold enough to freeze fire. "I sat in my car outside for the last ten minutes, watching through the window. I saw how you treated your son. I saw how you used your mother’s legacy to parade yourself around like a king while treating her grandson like garbage."
"He was embarrassing the family!" Christopher tried to defend himself, his voice cracking slightly. "He showed up dressed like a street kid, refusing to speak—"
"He didn't speak because you never bothered to learn how to listen!" Arthur's voice cracked like thunder. "For ten years, since his illness, you hid him away because his condition offended your fragile pride! You told the board he was unfit to inherit! You lied!"
Christopher swallowed hard, looking around at the patrons who were actively recording him. "Father, please, not here—"
"Oh, explicitly here," Arthur corrected coldly. "Tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM, the board of directors is convening. As owner of fifty-one percent of the voting shares, I am removing you as CEO of Hale International."
Gasps echoed across the dining room. Christopher’s associates at Table 4 immediately slid out of the booth, quietly backing away from Christopher as if his failure was contagious.

"You can't do that!" Christopher gasped, stumbling back a step. "I built the tech division!"
"And Ethan will run it when he finishes his degree," Arthur replied calmly. "You are finished, Christopher."
