Chapter 4 - The Price of Blood and Gold

Tariq walked slowly across the Persian rug, stopping just a few feet away from her. The air between them was thick with unresolved history, grief, and the ghosts of a shattered dynasty.
"When your father’s estate fell during the coup, everyone told me you were gone—that your carriage had been caught in the crossfire near the river," Tariq said, his voice cracking slightly with emotion. "I searched for months, Yasmin. For years. I built an empire just so I would have the power to look behind every closed door in the world, hoping to find you."
"And instead, you found me wiping floors in a luxury hotel," Lucía bitter-laughed, wiping the tear from her cheek. "Do you have any idea what my life has been like? Running, hiding, living in fear that my past would catch up to me, raising my son in a cramped apartment while scrubbing toilets so he could have a pair of shoes?"
"You didn't have to live like that," Tariq said fiercely, stepping closer. "You are blood of the Al-Darwish. Half of the shipping contracts and oil infrastructure in the Gulf carry our family's weight. You could have reached out to the consulate—"
"And risked exposing us to the enemies who killed my father and hunted down anyone connected to our name?" Lucía glared at him, her eyes flashing with a fierce, motherly pride that left the billionaire statesman momentarily speechless. "You think wealth protects you from everything, Tariq, but you live in a golden cage. I built an honest life with my own hands. I raised a good boy. I don't need your pity, and I certainly don't need your charity."
Tariq looked at her—not as a servant, not as a long-lost princess, but as an equal who had survived the fires of hell while he sat in marble palaces.
"I don't offer pity, Yasmin," Tariq said quietly, his voice steady and resolute. "I offer partnership. And protection. Your son will want for nothing, and you... you will never have to hold a cleaning rag again unless it is by your own choice."
Before Lucía could formulate a response, the heavy oak door of the study swung open.
A young boy with dark curls and a slightly oversized school jacket walked in, led by the head of security.

"Mom?" Daniel blinked, looking around the palatial room in utter confusion, holding his school backpack tightly against his chest. "Why are we here? Who is this man?"
Lucía looked from her son to Tariq, realizing that the invisible walls she had built around her life had finally crumbled into dust.
