Chapter 5 - The Unbroken Horizon

The following Saturday morning, the sun broke warm and bright over Amelia’s backyard. The lawn sprinklers clicked rhythmically against the green grass, and the scent of freshly brewed coffee drifted from the open kitchen window.
Maisie was riding her bicycle down the driveway, her bright pink helmet shining in the sunlight, her laughter echoing freely down the quiet suburban street. There were no shadows, no fear, and no lingering ghosts of intimidation.
Amelia stood on the porch, holding a steaming mug, watching her daughter pedal with uninhibited joy.
The financial support that had drained her accounts for years was gone, redirected instead into college funds for Maisie, local community charities, and a legal defense foundation for families preyed upon by predatory relatives.
She opened her phone one last time to check the bank notifications. Instead of automated alerts for luxury boutique charges and country club dues, the screen displayed a clean, balanced ledger.
The past was settled. The parasites had been swept away. And for the first time in her life, Amelia realized that true wealth wasn't measured by how many people you could support with your money—it was measured by the strength you had to protect the people you loved when the storm finally broke.

Maisie waved from the bottom of the driveway, calling out, “Watch me, Mommy! I’m going fast!”
Amelia smiled, raising her hand in response, her heart entirely at peace.
