Chapter 8 - THE ECHOES OF THE PASTYears passed. I eventually moved to a quiet cabin in the woods, far from the life I had led. I lived a simple life, filled with work and reflection. The man who had once bought expensive bags to mask his inadequacy was gone, replaced by someone who found joy in a quiet morning and the smell of rain.

I never married again. I didn't feel I had the right. I remained a man who carried a memory, a cautionary tale of what happens when you trade your greatest treasure for a fleeting distraction.

Sometimes, late at night, I would look at the photo of Clara in the wildflowers. I didn't see a child I had lost. I saw a child who had been saved from a man who didn't know how to love her.
