Chapter 5 - THE FINAL SEAM

The end of the Syndicate was not a cinematic shootout; it was a slow, agonizing dismantling. Gabriel used the records I had found in Vinnie’s satchel to target their warehouses, their accounts, and their leaders. One by one, they fell.
Within a month, New York was quiet.
I sat in the library, looking out at the gardens. My life was completely unrecognizable. My grandmother’s medical bills were paid in full, and she was receiving the best care in the country. I was no longer an invisible maid, but I was still an observer—only now, my observations shaped the fate of an empire.
Gabriel entered the room. He walked differently now—he had healed completely. He walked over to the chair beside me and sat down, a glass of whiskey in his hand.
“The last of them are in custody,” he said.
“You won,” I said.
“We won.” He looked at me, his gaze lingering. “I never asked what you wanted for all this. I have money, resources… you could go anywhere.”
I looked at the bookshelves, the marble floors, and finally, at him. I had spent my life mending things that were broken, whether it was fabric in a factory or the life of a man who didn't know who to trust.
“I don't want to go anywhere,” I said softly.
Gabriel smiled, a genuine, warm expression that changed his entire face. He reached out and took my hand, his thumb tracing the skin where the scissors had once been.
“Then stay,” he said. “I have a lot of broken things that need mending. And I’m starting to think you’re the only one who knows how to fix them.”
He pulled me toward him, his lips meeting mine in a kiss that wasn't about power or danger, but about the quiet, solid reality of two people who had found each other in the seams of a torn world.
I had been a maid, invisible and overlooked. But in the end, I had stitched a king’s life back together, and in return, he had given me a world I never dared to imagine.
The scars remained, but the wound was closed. And for the first time in my life, I wasn't just mending someone else’s life.
May you like
I was building my own.
