CHAPTER4 : THE HOUSE THAT REMEMBERED HER

The facility was not on any public map.

It existed between jurisdictions.

A private rehabilitation estate disguised as a medical research site.

Vincent’s insurance policy.

Logan arrived alone.

Marcus wanted to come.

Logan refused.

This was not business anymore.

This was personal history correcting itself.

The gates opened easily.

Too easily.

That was the first warning.

Inside, the place looked clean.

Too clean.

White walls. Soft lighting. Controlled silence.

And then—

he saw her.

At the far end of the glass corridor.

Sitting by a window.

Older.

Thinner.

Alive.

Elena.

Logan stopped walking.

For eight years, his brain had carried a corpse.

But the woman in front of him was not a ghost.

She was breathing.

She turned slowly.

And looked at him.

No shock.

No confusion.

Only recognition.

Like she had been waiting through every second.

“Logan,” she said softly.

His voice broke.

“You’re alive.”

Elena nodded slightly.

“I didn’t die when they wanted me to.”

He stepped forward.

“What did they do to you?”

Her eyes darkened slightly.

“They made me forget what I knew.”

“And did you?”

She shook her head.

“No.”

A pause.

Then:

“I pretended.”

Silence.

Then footsteps echoed behind Logan.

Security.

Vincent’s men.

Elena stood slowly.

“They’re here,” she said.

“I know,” Logan replied.

She looked at him carefully.

“You brought them to me.”

“No,” Logan said. “I came to take you out.”

A long silence.

Then Elena smiled faintly.

“You always were late to the truth.”

Gunfire erupted down the corridor.

But this time—

Logan didn’t retreat.

He moved forward.

May you like

Because for the first time in eight years—

there was something worth reaching the end of the hallway for.
