Chapter 1: The Wedding Dress
The sunlight poured through the tall windows of the bridal suite, turning the ivory curtains into glowing walls of gold.
Emma Sinclair stood silently in the center of the room, her wedding gown flowing behind her like a river of white silk.
For a moment, nobody spoke.
Across from her stood her fiancé, Daniel Hart, dressed in a black tuxedo.
Beside him was Chloe Bennett.
Daniel’s ex-girlfriend.
Chloe’s hand rested possessively on Daniel’s arm.
Both of them stared at Emma as if they had seen a ghost.
Emma’s fingers tightened slightly around the edge of her veil.
“You said the wedding was canceled,” she whispered.
Daniel swallowed hard.
His face drained of color.
“Emma… I…”
Three weeks earlier, Daniel had called her from overseas.
A business trip, he claimed.
Then came a message.
A single text.
I can’t do this anymore.
Don’t come back.
The wedding is off.
No explanation.
No phone calls.
No answers.
Only silence.
Emma had spent days crying alone in a hotel room in Paris.
Then she made a decision.
She would return home, collect her things, and leave forever.
But when she arrived at the mansion that morning, she discovered something far worse.
The wedding had never been canceled.
It had simply continued without her.
The flowers were arranged.
The guests had arrived.
The musicians were preparing outside.
And Chloe was standing where Emma was supposed to be.
Wearing a silver evening gown.
Looking very much like a replacement bride.
“You disappeared,” Chloe said coldly. “Daniel thought you weren’t coming back.”
Emma laughed softly.
The sound shocked everyone.
Because it wasn’t sadness.
It was disbelief.
“I disappeared?” Emma asked.
“I was the one who received the cancellation.”
Daniel finally looked away.
And in that moment, Emma understood.
Someone had sent the message.
Someone had wanted her gone.
Someone standing in that room.
Chloe.
The realization settled like ice in her chest.
And suddenly the entire wedding looked different.
Every flower.
Every decoration.
Every smile.
Everything had been built on a lie.
