Chapter 5 - A New Horizon

Five months later, the autumn chill had settled over New York City once again, but inside the private suite of Mount Sinai Hospital, the room was warm, bright, and filled with the sweetest sound in the world: the dual cries of newborn twin babies.

A healthy boy and a healthy girl.

I sat propped up against the hospital pillows, completely exhausted, my heart overflowing with a love so fierce it felt entirely new.

The door to the private suite clicked open, and Julian walked in, carrying a massive bouquet of white orchids and looking at me as if I hung the stars in the sky. He set the flowers down carefully, washed his hands, and walked straight to the hospital bassinet where our daughter was sleeping peacefully.

He lifted her with practiced, gentle care, cradling her tiny form against his chest, before walking over to sit beside my bed.

"Look at her," Julian whispered, a rare, brilliant smile breaking across his face. "She has your eyes, Liv."

"And your stubbornness, no doubt," I laughed softly, leaning my head against his shoulder.

"Good," Julian kissed my forehead tenderly. "She'll need it to rule the world one day."

As I looked at Julian—the man who hadn't just rescued me from the wreckage of a shattered marriage, but had built an entire world of safety, respect, and unconditional love for our growing family—I thought back to that night at the Plaza Hotel.

The shattered crystal. The gasping crowd. The look of absolute terror on Liam Hayes's face.

It felt like a lifetime ago in a completely different universe.

I didn't hate Liam anymore. Hatred required energy, and I had none to spare for ghosts. I had everything that mattered right here in this room—a future built on solid ground, two beautiful children who would never know what it was like to be treated as an afterthought, and a man who loved me not for what I could do for his image, but for simply being who I was.
