Chapter 9 - The Final Stone

Elara took over the Van Allen holdings, not as a duty, but as a project. She integrated her foundation into the company, using its resources to fund affordable housing, community education, and urban renewal projects across the country.
She became a titan of industry, but not the kind Marcus had been. She was a builder, not a predator.
She walked into her father’s old study, the room where everything had started. She sat down at the mahogany desk. It was heavy, dark, and imposing.
She opened the center drawer and found a small, velvet-lined box. Inside was a key. Not a key to an office, or a house, or a vault.
It was a key to a cottage on the coast of Maine.
A note was attached. “For when the city becomes too loud. You’ll need a place where no one can tell you who you are.”
Elara stood up, feeling a profound sense of peace.
She didn't stay to organize the papers. She didn't stay to check the market reports.
She left the study, walked out of the house, and drove to the airport.
She was going to Maine.
She was going to sit on a porch, watch the ocean, and be invisible. But this time, it would be by choice. And she knew that when she came back, she would be ready to build something even bigger.
Because she wasn't building for Marcus. She wasn't building for her father.

She was building for herself.
And that, she knew, was a foundation that would never, ever crack.
