Chapter 10 - The Horizon

The cottage in Maine was everything her father had promised. It was simple, quiet, and far away from the noise of Manhattan.
Elara spent her days walking on the beach, sketching ideas in her notebook, and watching the tide come in and out.
One afternoon, Julian arrived. He didn't ask if he could stay; he just brought a basket of food and sat on the porch.
“It’s quiet here,” he said.
“It is,” Elara replied.
“You’ve changed the world, you know. In your own way.”
Elara looked at the ocean. “I’ve changed the city. The world is a much bigger project.”
Julian smiled. “Well, you have time.”
They sat in silence, watching the sun dip below the horizon. The world was vast, deep, and full of possibilities. Elara realized that she wasn't finished. She would never be finished.
She had started as a wife who disappeared, a woman who traded her name for a seat at the table. Now, she was the table.
She stood up, took a deep breath, and walked into the house. She had work to do. But for the first time, she was doing it because she wanted to, not because she had to.
She was free.
And as she looked at her reflection in the glass of the window, she didn't see the woman who had been humiliated in the ballroom. She saw a woman who had survived the fire, built a home from the ashes, and was finally, truly, herself.

She was no longer invisible. She was the one who defined what was seen.
And as she sat down to write her next chapter, she knew—she was just getting started.
