Chapter 7 - A New Horizon
Two months later, the Sterling Grand underwent a quiet but profound transformation.
With Grace managing guest relations, service standards across the hotel improved dramatically. The invisible wall between management and the hourly staff began to dissolve. Employees were listened to, problems were solved transparently, and the toxic culture championed by former managers like Derek Hale was completely rooted out.
Lily continued her studies at a prestigious private academy in Manhattan, her tuition covered entirely by the trust fund. But she still visited her mother at the hotel on Saturday afternoons.
She didn't polish brass wheels anymore. Instead, she sat in her mother’s new office, doing her homework, reading advanced literature, and occasionally reviewing English-to-Japanese translated hotel menus to ensure there were no cultural errors.
One Saturday afternoon, Evan Brooks walked into Grace’s office carrying two cups of hot cocoa with marshmallows.
“Delivery for the resident linguistic consultant,” Evan smiled, setting a cup down on Lily’s desk.
Lily looked up from her textbook, smiling brightly. “Thank you, Mr. Brooks.”
“How’s the scholarship essay coming along?” Evan asked, leaning against the doorframe.
“It’s about international business ethics,” Lily answered seriously. “Mom says I have to write it in simple English so regular people can understand it, not just corporate lawyers.”

Grace walked out of her private kitchenette, laughing softly as she handed Evan a folder. “She’s tougher on corporate ethics than the board of directors, Evan. I think she’s going to take over Mr. Sterling’s job by the time she’s twenty-five.”
Evan laughed, taking a sip of his coffee. “Knowing Lily, she’d probably do a much better job running the global markets than half the men currently on Wall Street.”
