Chapter 6 - The Emergency Room

The silent alarm triggered a high-frequency pulse that routed directly to Victor’s private terminal.

Within ninety seconds, Victor and three armed guards swept through the ground-floor corridor. They found the shattered delivery window and the intruder unconscious on the floor, his nose broken and a heavy-duty stun gun lying beside him.

But Emily was nowhere to be found.

A frantic search of the mansion led Dominic Reyes to the basement service stairwell, where a trail of dark crimson blood smeared across the concrete floor.

Emily had been cornered by a second intruder before she could reach the panic room. During the struggle, a knife had sliced deep across her forearm, and she had hit her head hard against a concrete pillar.

When Victor found her, she was lying on the cold floor, pale, bleeding heavily, and drifting in and out of consciousness.

That was the moment the myth of Victor Callaway shattered into a million jagged pieces.

The man who never hurried, never flinched, and never let fear touch his face scooped Emily up into his arms, sprinted out to his private vehicle, and drove through red lights all the way to St. Matthew Medical Center, breaking every traffic law in the state of Illinois.
