Chapter 5 - The Corporate Counter-Strike

By 8:00 AM the next morning, the financial markets in New York were already reacting to the earthquake shaking the Callaway-Vale syndicate.
Julian sat behind his massive mahogany desk in the top-floor study, a dozen digital monitors glowing with real-time stock ticker updates, corporate asset ledgers, and intercepted communication logs.
His lead security advisor, Marcus, stood across the desk, sliding a thick black dossier onto the polished wood.
“You were right, boss,” Marcus said grimly. “We dug into Richard Arden’s accounts over the last five years. It turns out the merger was a hostile takeover in disguise. Arden was funneling corporate debt from his failing shipping firm directly into Callaway Global’s subsidiary accounts using forged authorization signatures.”
Julian didn't look up from his tablet. His face was a mask of cold, ruthless marble.
“Whose signature did he forge?” Julian asked quietly.
“Ours,” Marcus replied. “And... more importantly, they found evidence regarding your brother’s accident six years ago.”
Julian’s hand froze over the tablet. The room temperature seemed to drop twenty degrees instantly.
“Explain,” Julian whispered.
“It wasn't a random highway accident, Mr. Vale,” Marcus said, swallowing hard. “Arden’s chief financial officer at the time was heavily in debt to your brother over a land dispute. Our forensic audit of the vehicle wreckage recovered from the police impound yard shows that the brake lines on Owen’s roadster were cleanly severed using industrial hydraulic cutters—the exact same specialty tools registered under a shell company owned by Richard Arden.”
A heavy, suffocating silence descended over the study.
The man who had destroyed Owen’s car last night wasn't just a spoiled, malicious socialite. She was the daughter of the man who had murdered his brother six years ago.
Julian stood up slowly.
The cold rage that had been simmering inside him for six years finally boiled over into an absolute, blinding focus. There was no hesitation left. No mercy.
“Call the federal prosecutor’s office,” Julian ordered, his voice dropping into a register so chillingly calm it made Marcus’s blood run cold. “Tell them I am personally delivering the complete forensic dossier on Richard Arden’s corporate fraud and vehicular homicide conspiracy within the hour.”

“And Celeste?” Marcus asked.
“She and her father are going to learn what happens when you mistake a quiet man for a weak one,” Julian replied, walking toward the towering windows to look out over the sunlit estate grounds. “Freeze every asset they hold. Revoke every commercial license. By the end of the day, the Arden name will be nothing more than a cautionary tale on Wall Street.”
