Chapter 5 - The Final Blueprint
That evening, the top-floor office of Moretti Enterprises was bathed in the warm, golden light of the setting Manhattan sun.
Adriano poured two glasses of aged scotch, handing one to Helena as she walked in, her briefcase finally feeling light in her hand.
“Word travels fast in this city,” Adriano said, a genuine smile gracing his features as he raised his glass. “By noon, the Vance family empire was in total freefall. Your ex-husband is currently facing federal indictment.”
Helena took a sip of the scotch, feeling the warm burn soothe the last lingering tension in her shoulders. She looked out the massive glass window at the sprawling skyline of New York.
“I couldn't have done it without your resources,” Helena admitted, turning to look at him.
“My resources were useless without your eyes,” Adriano replied softly, stepping closer. “You didn't just save a contract three weeks ago, Helena. You saved my entire operation from a very clever trap. And today, you proved that you are the most formidable lawyer in this city.”
The office door clicked open a fraction, and a small pink sneaker poked through the gap.
“Mommy? Mr. Moretti?”
Clara peeked her head into the room, holding a half-finished drawing of a unicorn wearing a tiny black suit and tie.
Adriano laughed—a rich, booming sound that rarely escaped him—and crouched down as Clara trotted across the plush carpet, holding out the drawing.
“I drew you, Mr. Moretti,” Clara announced proudly. “Because Mommy says you’re the boss of the big building, but you still need help reading the small print.”
Adriano accepted the drawing with solemn, absolute reverence, carefully inspecting the crayon lines.

“It is the finest portrait I have ever received, Clara,” Adriano said seriously, before looking up at Helena with a gaze that promised a future neither of them had expected to find. “And she is entirely right. A man is only as strong as the person willing to show him where the fine print hides.”
Helena smiled, the last fragile pieces of her old, broken life finally falling away, replaced by the unbreakable foundation of a new beginning.
