Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Monitor

The world seemed to stop.

Dante stared through the emergency room glass as doctors fought to keep Lena alive. The steady rhythm of the monitor became chaotic, and every alarm felt like a knife twisting deeper into his chest.

Then he looked back at Vanessa.

"What did you just say?"

Vanessa's face turned pale.

For the first time since Dante had known her, she looked afraid.

"I didn't mean—"

"You said she wasn't supposed to make it here alive."

The hallway fell silent.

Even the guards exchanged nervous glances.

Dante stepped closer.

His voice became dangerously calm.

"Tell me the truth."

Vanessa swallowed hard.

"It wasn't supposed to happen like this."

Dante's eyes darkened.

Inside the trauma room, doctors shocked Lena's heart.

Her body jerked.

The monitor screamed.

"Again!" a physician shouted.

Vanessa began trembling.

"I only wanted her gone."

Dante felt something cold move through his veins.

Months earlier, Vanessa had discovered old photographs of Lena hidden in Dante's private office. She learned Lena had once been the only woman Dante ever truly loved.

Jealousy became obsession.

Obsession became hatred.

She hired men to follow Lena.

To intimidate her.

To scare her away.

But the men had gone further than instructed.

Much further.

The accident that sent Lena to the hospital had never been an accident at all.

Before Dante could speak, the trauma room doors burst open.

A doctor rushed out.

"Are you family?"

Dante answered immediately.

"I am."

The doctor hesitated.

"The mother is critical. We may need an emergency delivery. If we don't act now, we could lose both of them."

Both.

The word hit Dante harder than any bullet ever could.

His child.

The child he never knew existed.

The child Lena had been carrying alone.
