Chapter 6 - The Sanctuary on Beacon Hill

While the Laurent dynasty crumbled under the weight of its own arrogance, life inside the Falkner estate on Beacon Hill was undergoing a quiet, profound transformation.

The staff quarters had been cleared out. In their place, Helena was given the sunlit west wing overlooking the public gardens—a massive, high-ceilinged suite with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a private art studio, and a state-of-the-art jewelry workbench fitted with precision microscopes and pneumatic presses.

Margaret Vale, released from the cramped, drafty apartment in South Boston, was comfortably settled into a VIP recovery suite at the St. Jude Medical Pavilion. Surrounded by top-tier cardiologists, fresh flowers daily sent by Adrian himself, and a team of private nurses, Margaret’s health improved dramatically within the first week.

“You’re spoiling me, sweetheart,” Margaret chuckled one afternoon as Helena adjusted the pillows on her hospital bed.

“Adrian is spoiling you,” Helena corrected with a warm smile, handing her mother a glass of fresh pomegranate juice. “He checks in with the head surgeon three times a day. I think he’s more paranoid about your heart rate than the board of directors is about his shipping stock.”

Margaret reached out, her frail hand patting Helena’s cheek. Her eyes, filled with deep wisdom and love, searched her daughter’s face. “He looks at you, Lena, the way a drowning man looks at dry land. Don’t run away from a good thing just because you’re used to fighting for everything alone.”

Helena looked down at her hands—hands that had spent years calloused by harsh chemicals and heavy metal files. For the first time in her life, the calluses didn’t feel like armor. They felt like a badge of survival.

And waiting for her back at the estate was a man who didn't care about designer gowns or social standing—a man who had spent twenty-one years searching for the girl who saved his life, and would spend the rest of his life making sure no one ever hurt her again.
