Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

The first snow of the winter season fell silently over Boston, coating the brick streets and iron balconies of the Falkner estate in a blanket of pristine white.

Inside the private study, the fire crackled in the hearth, casting long, golden shadows across the Persian rugs and mahogany bookshelves.

Helena sat at her workbench, holding a jeweler’s loupe to her eye as she carefully set a tiny diamond into the prong of a new ring design.

Adrian walked in quietly, carrying two mugs of hot spiced cider. He set one down on the wooden workbench and wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder.

“You’ve been at that bench for three hours,” Adrian murmured softly.

“Art can’t be rushed, Mr. Falkner,” Helena replied without looking up, though a small, content smile played on her lips.

“You already proved you can build a masterpiece out of anything,” Adrian whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to the side of her neck.

Helena set her tools down, turned around in his arms, and looped her arms loosely around his neck. The heavy platinum band with its intertwining river reeds caught the firelight as her hand rested against his chest.

She wasn't the girl hiding in the river reeds anymore. She wasn't the maid cleaning up broken glass while wealthy socialites laughed behind her back.

She was a survivor. She was a creator. She was a queen who had built her throne out of fire and gold.

“The past is gone, Adrian,” Helena whispered, her dark eyes shining with absolute peace.

“I know,” Adrian answered, his gaze holding hers with fierce, unwavering devotion. “And our future belongs entirely to us.”

He kissed her—slow, deep, and absolute—while outside, the snow fell softly over the city, sealing their world in quiet, unbreakable safety.
